The "Auto-Self": The Hidden Key to Finally Sticking to New Year's Resolutions?
Barry Borgerson, Ph.D., provides insight into transforming human behavior
RALEIGH, NC, December 03, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For generations of Americans, New Year's resolutions have been chosen with the best of intentions, only to be abandoned before winter is over. According to a survey from Opinion Corporation, while 45 percent of Americans usually set New Year's resolutions, only eight percent are always successful in achieving them.
If you are one of the scores of individuals who have an annual tradition of failing in your resolutions, Barry Borgerson, Ph.D., may have the answer for you. In his groundbreaking new book titled "The Auto-Self: The Key to Creating Star Performers and to Becoming a Star Yourself," Dr. Borgerson introduces readers to the next frontier in human transformation and how it can tap into the professional and personal potential that can escape so many.
Dr. Borgerson, who led the transformation and growth of several well-known companies throughout his heralded career, explains that the human mind contains two very different "selfs": a thinking-self and an auto-self, both of which play a key role in all facets of human behavior and self-control.
"Despite academic and psychiatric indicators to the contrary, the prevailing view of the mind is that it is one-dimensional," said Dr. Borgerson. "This assumption creates significant barriers to individual and organizational achievement, as it ignores the second dimension of normal human activity that has a direct impact on our successes. Humans have two-dimensional minds, and those who understand both dimensions — and how to tap into each — will arm themselves with the tools to reach previously unattainable goals... including New Year's resolutions."
According to Dr. Borgerson, the two dimensions of the human mind are defined as:
• When we operate in our cognitive, thinking, knowledgeable mode, our thinking-self controls our activities.
• When we display involuntary behaviors, or when paradigms or cultures constrain our thoughts and understanding, our auto-self controls us.
"These two 'selfs' often work cooperatively, but all too often they compete for control of our actions," explains Dr. Borgerson. "Most management training or self-help programs focus exclusively on the thinking-self. However, those who understand and conquer their auto-self will be able to win the 'unfair fight,' when the thinking-self simply tries to overpower the auto-self. Conquering the auto-self often leads to a level of success that many have long sought but have never been able to achieve."
"The Auto-Self: The Key to Creating Star Performers and to Becoming a Star Yourself," is available on Amazon.com. Kirkus described the book as "A penetrating, empowering driver's manual for the dual-mind."
